Just the other day I was talking to someone about the trouble I got into when I was younger. Whether it was garbage cans, water balloon launchers or parties I always felt invincible. I think I felt like this because I was 17u and there really weren’t any consequences if you got caught. The conversation ended with me saying, “I can’t even imagine thinking about doing something like that now. No way in hell.” Now, I am mid twenties and I am not looking for ANY sort of trouble. You can call me soft, but I think it’s more of a common sense thing. Apparently Lindsay Hofford missed this memo.
A scout with the Maple Leafs was reportedly arrested over the weekend at a Western New York theme park, where police say he got drunk, stole a golf cart, collided with another vehicle and left the scene.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, 53-year-old scout Lindsay Hofford, of Nobleton, Ont., took the cart at about 11:40 p.m. on Saturday at Darien Lake.
As reported by the Buffalo News, a Sheriff’s Office statement doesn’t indicate where on the grounds the incident took place. A Green Day concert was held at the park that night, and while the park closed at 10 p.m., there is a campground located beside the amphitheatre.
Hofford was charged with driving while intoxicated, unauthorized use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent, leaving the scene of an accident, making an unsafe lane change and refusing to take a breath test.
Hofford was arraigned on Sunday afternoon in Darien Town Court and is to reappear in court on Sept. 21.
On Monday, a spokesman for the Leafs would only say the team is aware of the allegations.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are aware of the charges against Lindsay Hofford. The club will have no further comment at this time,” the spokesman said.
Hofford, a former director of scouting with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, joined the Leafs in 2015 and serves as the team’s director of Eastern Area Scouting. He is also the founder and CEO of the Pro Hockey Development Group.
So let me try and get this straight: Lindsay Hofford, a scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was arrested over the weekend where he got buckled, stole a golf cart, went on a joy ride and crashed the cart into another vehicle- pretty much real life GTA. Isn’t it amazing what liquid courage can do? A 53 year old man drinks a few beers, has four of five shots of Jamo, and takes a golf cart ride of a lifetime. This guy clearly gives zero fucks and is a one man party. I thought I was getting to old to do the whole party thing but if this 53 year old is out here doing stuff like this I may have to reconsider. Hockey players are known to drink and make dumb choices but you, Mr. Hofford, seem to take the cake. If anyone can get in contact with this guy, I’d love to have him on the podcast. Something is telling me this isn’t the first time he’s decided to wild out. I can’t wait to see what Maple Leafs Twitter has to say about this.
