This may not be hockey related, but it is something that is very important to me, as well as many other across the globe. Every year, Bell Canada has a day called Bell Let’s Talk, where people go on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram and post the hashtag, #BellLetsTalk.
For those of you who don’t know, the campaign surfaced to try to end the stigma around mental health. For every use of the hashtag, the company donates 5 Canadian cents to the cause. Starting in 2011, the campaign has donated $93.4 million to mental health initiatives. Every year, the company grows stronger, donating more money every year. Mental health is a sensitive topic in society nowadays. A lot of people won’t talk about it. But it does happen, and it’s more present than most people think. Everybody probably knows at least one person who has been affected by mental illness. It doesn’t matter whether you work at an office, construction site, or are an athlete, mental illness affects everyone.
