The Blues fired the wrong guy. Chief is just the scapegoat. Army needs to go. As a Blues fan the start of this season has made me sick. The last game for Craig Berube behind the bench was a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The damage was already done and even if the Blues had won that game I still think it was too late for Berube. Last weekend, the Blues played the Blackhawks but I chose to watch the Red Wings play the Senators instead. The Blues got embarrassed in Chicago and boy was there drama in Detroit.
Before I break down the Dylan Larkin incident, I want to mention the defensive depth and how important it is to have a solid d core. Detroit might have the best defensive pairings in the whole league. Jake Walman and Moritz Seider are the top pairing and that’s a scary duo. Walman is a blocking machine who also has a cannon of a shot. Mo Seider has never missed a game and he is in his third season in the big leagues. The sixth pick from the 2019 draft has easily made himself a household name at the defensive position. Ben Chiarot and Jeff Petry are two seasoned veterans holding down the second pairing. The third pairing of Olli Maatta and Shayne Gostisbehere could be a top 4 pairing on any other team.
Dylan Larkin has had a history of neck injuries and there was another scary incident on Saturday, leaving Larkin face down. All hell breaks lose when David Perron goes after Artem Zub. I’m not saying it is okay to cross check somebody in the face but when your captain is unconscious on the ice emotions are going to rise. David Perron was given a six game suspension which will be appealed. Local clown and head of department of player safety George Parros continues to run the circus. Erik Gudbranson was suspended one game for his shenanigans with Nick Cousins.
So maybe if David Perron had dropped his stick it would have only been a one game suspension? Six games seems to be a little excessive to me. Perron was only looking out for his captain who has been on the wrong end of too many head shots.
My guess is the David Perron suspension will be reduced but to how many games is the question? Hopefully, this isn’t the end of the season for Dylan Larkin but he has been placed on IR. Not sure how Mathieu Joseph didn’t receive any suspension or fine for the head shot but again what do you expect when the head of player safety is a clown?
Three MAJOR points to take away from above:
1. Craig Berube should not have been fired.
2. The Red Wings have a deep defensive core.
3. The circus of Department of Player Safety and George Parros are clowns.
