This feels like a scene in Groundhog Day at this point with injuries.
The Dallas Stars fell to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night by a final score of 3-2 in overtime. What felt like a Casey DeSmith clinic, quickly turned into a turn the tv off and throw your remote type of finish at Madison Square Garden.
DeSmith was given the nod early Tuesday due to an illness to Jake Oettinger (who is slated to get the start in New Jersey on Wednesday night) and was rightfully upset not to get the victory against the Rangers. “It was too good of a game for it to end like that, so I’m bummed,” DeSmith said, who stopped 38 shots and held the Rangers power play to and 0-for-5 evening. With the overtime loss on Tuesday night, DeSmith continues his solid play and is statistically speaking even better on the road touting a 1.96 GAA and a .933 save percentage.
A desperately needed depth goal from Kyle Capobianco tied the game late in the first period and an absolute master class two-on-one display from Wyatt Johnston to Mikko Rantanen would give the Stars the lead before the Rangers would get the tie late after pulling goalie Igor Shesterkin off the stick of Will Cuylle with 1:06 remaining in the third period. From there, the Rangers would ultimately secure both points in the evening as Vladislav Gavrikov scored just over a minute into overtime.

Now for the portion of the article Stars fans are becoming uncomfortably familiar with.
If you have been paying attention, in my article that is LITERALLY LESS THAN 24 HOURS OLD from Tuesday, I had the unfortunate task of trying to work within the current cap space to find a suitable option to help lessen the load on an already teetering blue line due to injuries to Thomas Harley, Nils Lundkvist, and most recently Lian Bichsel. Check it out here to see what you think. Fast forward to the first period of Tuesday night and Tyler Seguin would take an awkward fall and would eventually have to be helped off the ice. If you are a stranger to Seguin’s injury history let me quickly fill you in, it’s extensive.
As of writing this, like quite literally just checked X and saw the news, it is likely that Tyler Seguin’s season is over. At least the regular season. Dallas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan has shared in the media scrum Wednesday the devastating news of Seguin’s injury after an already rough injury filled career. As of now, the team awaits more input but the optimism is low.
I will take a deeper dive into the cap stipulations and what this means for the Stars front office in due time with the cap space that will likely come from a move to the LTIR, but for now you just have to feel for Seguin who battled back from hip surgery only to have yet another hurdle placed in his way.
