Might as well write one more VGK blog before 2021 ends. Tuesday’s game against the Kings was the first Vegas game in a week thanks to covid and the holiday break. Three goals in the first period and the Golden Knights looked far from rusty.
My favorite goal of the game was when Drew Doughty plays the puck behind the net and leaves it on a platter for Marchessault. Jonathan Marchessault is quietly having himself a career year and continues to improve every season. Marchy has 24 points through 28 games with six points in the last five games.
Now for some bad news… Max Pacioretty has wrist surgery. But wait, maybe this is a good thing? Since acquiring Jack Eichel the Vegas Golden Knights are $5 million over cap if everyone is healthy. Pacioretty should be back for post season and Vegas can pull a Kucherov/Tampa Bay move with the cap.
More injury news: Alex Pietrangelo practiced yesterday but is still uncertain for today’s game against the Ducks. Robin Lehner is still day to day with a lower body injury. Mark Stone is also day to day. Alec Martinez should be back at some point in 2022 after suffering a facial laceration when he was cut by a skate on November 11th against the Wild.
In order for Vegas to have success in the second half of the season guys like Zach Whitecloud, Ben Hutton, Dylan Coghlan, Laurent Brossoit, and Keegan Kolesar have to continue elevating their play. With absences from star players Vegas is going to need everybody to bring their A game.
