Gentleman’s Sweep in Vegas

Your Vegas Golden Knights are the first team to punch their ticket into the second round. Just like I predicted they would beat the Jets in five games.

Connor Hellebuyck is one of the leagues best goalies but don’t count on him to score goals. The Jets might be the weakest offensive team in this year’s playoffs and if Mark Scheifele is out who is going to score goals? Kyle Connor or Pierre-Luc Dubois? If those are your two best scoring threats good luck at winning a game.

The Jets won the first game of the series by a commanding score of 5-1. Game two was all Vegas, while game three went to two overtimes and the series could have been very different if Winnipeg manages a win here.

The lower body injury to Josh Morrissey is a tragedy. Without Morrissey and Scheifele there is no way the Jets can do anything. There’s no leadership on this Jets team and Connor Hellebuyck might have saved them the embarrassment of being swept in four games.

It’s no secret the Jets have missing pieces and holes to fill during the offseason if they want to compete next season. There’s no chance at getting out of the first round of the playoffs with this kind of play.

Vegas had a different lineup for game five missing Kessel, McNabb, and Shea Theodore. The Iron Hot Dog aka Phil Kessel was a healthy scratch and hasn’t missed a playoff game since 2008. This will not affect his 1,149 consecutive game streak because its post season. Brayden McNabb is day-to-day with upper body injury while Shea Theodore was a late scratch because of an illness. Ben Hutton and William Carrier fill in for McNabb and Theodore. Look for both players to return in the next series. I picked Edmonton to beat the Kings in seven games but the Oilers can close out the series if they win on the road tomorrow night.
