With No Fine or Suspension For Pastrnaks Hit on Lindgren, Parros and NHL Safety are Fine With Players Burying Other Players From Behind

Another day, another black eye for the sport we all grew up loving.

In last nights Rangers and Bruins game, Bruins forward David Pastrnak delivered an illegal hit from behind to unsuspecting Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren. With such force and speed, Lindgren was cut open and left for repairs while Pastrnak was assessed a 5 minute major penalty and game misconduct.

The correct call was made on the ice, the Rangers beat the Bruins at the JV garden and we move on, right? WRONG.

5 minutes in the box and game misconduct, again while appropriate, cannot be the only discipline received for this hit. The first time I watched the video, I was convinced that it was shot in fast forward. Pastrnak came wheeling in at a thousand kilometers an hour and buried Lindgren face first into the glass. This wasn’t the only time 88 has gone after 55 and other people have taken notice.

Was this a premediated attack? If it was, wouldn’t we want to get rid of predatory players and plays like this? Does 88 lose sleep the night before playing the Rangers because 55 is in his kitchen? Why so mad, David?

“It is Lindgrens responsibility to not get lit up like that.”

Okay, so by that logic you’re saying that people who are murdered are as responsible as the killer because I mean they obviously shouldn’t have been standing there, right?

With no additional punishment, the NHL will continue to become a wild, wild west filled with goons who have zero respect for their opposition. With no additional punishment, players will skate around with zero remorse knowing they will be able to get away with anything and everything because the leagues safety department is so downright incompetent. It’s amazing what happens when the NHL thinks its a good idea to put an absolute plug in charge of discipline.

Hits like this should not be in the game. Hits like this are committed by dirty hockey players.

9 games, minimum – or thats at least what should have popped up on the NHL Player Safety wheel.

This blog was written at a 50% satire right. While Pastrnak is one of the dirtiest players in the game, this blog is intended to trigger fellow Morning Skate writer and podcaster Brownie along with Morning Skate Alum Hal. Thank you and happy holidays.
