Remember The Name: Joe Iginla Nets His First in the WHL

If you have kept up with The Morning Skate blogs this week, you’ve seen that there has been some back and forth between myself and cohost Brownie. What started as a minor back and forth between Rangers and Bruins bloggers has turned into something I just need to get off of my chest. If you’ve followed the podcast at all, you know that we have a signature send off to our listeners that I have let happen over the last 100 or so shows and it’s time to break my silence.

Somethings in life are just synonymous.

Peanut Butter and Jelly.

Grizzly Wintergreen and an empty water bottle.

Jack Edwards and his diabolical Bruins fetish.

Jarome Iginla and Ked being his undisputed number one fan.

I can’t even begin to describe to you the effect Jarome. First, he was a natural born leader.

He was a 3 time olympian and 2 time gold medalist on a fully stacked Canadian roster.

He also knew how to give back to the community. He signed in Boston where he knew the Bruins desperately needed his help. When Jarome saw that someone needed help, that a potential original six franchise would have to fold if not for his services – he not only signed on the dotted line but even chose Boston to call home.

What a first class man.

Fast forward all of these years later, Iginlas son is now in the WHL doing Iginla type things.

15 years old and already putting the puck into the back of the net. This is going to be a name to watch in the coming years as I’m sure Joe and his 17 year old brother Tij make it closer to the NHL draft.

If I’m an NHL team, I’m taking both of these brothers no matter what. If they play anything like their old man, NHL teams will have a couple studs on their hands. I know Americans have the Tkachuk brothers who panned out pretty good but can you imagine if Canada gets the Iginla brothers? If only the hockey world had a best on best tournament – really makes you think.

Not to be outdone by her brothers, Iginla also has a daughter named Jade who is ripping it up at Brown and has served Team Canada proudly.

Genetics, man.

God bless you Jarome Iginla. Keep an eye out on all three of his kids as they’re sure to set the hockey scene on fire. I can’t wait to see the Iginla name back in the NHL.
