Capitals Take Down Devils in D.C.

The boys got their revenge last night from their January 6th shellacking they took losing 6-3 by the hands of Jersey.

I’ll tell you what one game this team looks like a non contender and then the next they look like a playoff team, gonna cause me to be an alcoholic.

Well before fans could get settled in their seats in D.C. Connor McMichael notched his 9th goal of the season 39 seconds into the game of a rebound shot from the right circle which ties his season career high and gave the Caps and early 1-0 lead which was started by a great neutral zone pass from Mantha.

The Devils tied the game late in the 3rd off a defensive miscue by Oshie which allowed the Simon Nemec a free lane to the net which caused Edmundson to make a choice play the puck or the free man he just missed the Nemec pass which allowed Alexander Holtz to beat Lindgren making the game 1-1 going into the 2nd.

Connor McMichael got the lone goal in the 2nd period to beat his career best and easily scored the best goal in the NHL and prehaps his pro hockey career. Just a wizard-like goal from McNasty. This was also Connor’s first multi-goal game of his career. 2-1 Caps

Dylan Strome got on the board to make it a 2 goal lead from beautiful pass from Ovi while he crashed the net deflected it on net off the goalie’s pad then smacked in the rebound for the geno. Strome’s 21st goal of the season is the team lead and is now on pace for over 30 goals on the season.

Ovechkin extended his point streak to 9 games on the apple on the goal. This is Ovi’s first 9 or more point streak since 2019.

Like I mentioned a couple blogs ago when they come they come in bunches! Ovi off the faceoff rips it past the NJ goalie to make it 4-1 Caps. This was Ovi’s 837th goal of his career.

Then off a great forwarding pass from Carlson to the net Michael Sgarbossa deflected the puck in the goal off his skate without a kicking motion to make it 5-1 in favor of Washington. This was Sgarb’s first goal of the season and first since Dec. 17th 2021.

Then in the McNugget minute of the 3rd period on the powerplay Ovi decided to send the fans home with goal 838. On a great rush from Oshie, Pacioretty, and Strome who off one skate was able to feed Ovi for the easy tap in goal.

Charles Lindgren was lights out tonight and don’t forget the Devils are one of the better teams in the east and a serious Cup contender.

Aside from the score the Devils still played a solid game and felt like they controlled most of the puck possession. and had two great power-play chances, but Lindy shut them down and ended their momentum.

Nic Dowd also left the game early with an upper-body injury, fingers crossed it isn’t serious cause he has been by far our best D-man.

Ovi now has 8 goals in his last 8 games “8BOOM8”. Ovi had 8 goals in his first 43 games this season and now has 8 in 8!

Ovechkin is now 56 away from Gretzky’s goal record. Crazy to think without the lockouts he would have easily passed the record by now and would be adding to a possibly untouchable record.

My biggest issue right now is that we are in limbo with this team we don’t look like sellers and we also don’t look like buyers either which is kind of a shitty spot to be in. Especially with the injury will be harder to sell Dowd now unless it’s not a serious injury. I still think Mantha is on the trade block or even Lindgren which I think has the highest stock for a serious Cup contender that needs a goalie (cough cough Toronto).

The boys get a couple days off then face-off against another solid team in the Tampa-bay Lightning.
