The Florida Panthers have taken a stranglehold on the 2024 Stanley Cup Final with a convincing 2-0 series lead over the rig pigs in Oil Town.
The Cats have not just frustrated, but shutdown the best player in hockey, Connor McDavid, and arguably another top 5 player in the NHL in Leon Draisaitl. Both players were showing their frustration as McDavid took a swing at Tkachuk and then obviously Draisaitl’s dirty hit on Barkov.
As you can see, Leon clearly leaves his feet and Barky’s head is the main point of contact. However, it is the Finals and you know the NHL isn’t about to suspend one of their superstars. This being said, I think it would be a great time for Lombergini, Cousins, or one of the rat pack to take a run at McDavid as to say “you take out our captain, we go for yours”.
The Cats are truly dictating the pace of play in this series. While Edmonton held the advantage in shots, it never seemed like they were in control of game one.
The Panthers are also getting depth scoring from Evan Rodrigues who has 3 goals through the first 2 games. They are doing everything needed to win the Cup.
Finally, I would be remised if I did not give Bob the credit he is due. While I have been very critical of him over the years (up until last year’s playoff run if I am being honest), he is truly earning every penny of his contract. He has given up 1 goal in 2 games in the Cup Finals.
If the Cats can finish this thing off, I think this will cement Bobrovsky as a Hall of Fame goaltender as well as a shoe in for the Conn Smythe.
All of the pressure now rests on the Oilers’ shoulders as the series heads north to Edmonton for a crucial 2 game stretch. If the Panthers can get out of Alberta splitting the series, I think they will wrap this thing up in 5.
