Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, hockey fans of all ages: Your Northeastern Huskies women’s hockey team is back and baby they’re undefeated! The 2024-2025 ‘Dawgs rolled into Happy Valley for a pair against the Penn State Nittany Lions and put the first one away with a 3-1 victory. There was skating, there were penalties, there were some elite cellys and yeah, I’m thinking the Huskies are back.
Now full disclosure: I was unable to actually watch the game, but thanks to the magic of live stats, Twitter updates and the crack video squad at NU: It was like I was in the building. On an aside, if anyone out there has a B1G Network account login they’d like to share with me for tomorrow’s game, I’d very much appreciate it.
NU rolled into this one ranked 13th nationally (and 2nd in Hockey East) with Penn State a slot above them at 12 in the national poll. Katelyn Roberts opened the scoring for Penn when her bouncing one-timer off the face-off bounded up and over Paige Taborski‘s glove for their only goal and lead of the night.
PSU held the lead for about 45 seconds before friend of the pod (and still The Mayor of Kingston) Skylar Irving scored Northeastern’s first of the campaign. Skirvs took a sweet cross zone dish from newcomer Jaden Bogden (thank you Clarkson) and her wrister from the inside of the LW circle beat Katie Desa over the glove. Quick stick tap for Éloïse Caron with the net drive to initiate the play. I mean Skirvs had to be the odds on favorite for first goal of the year right?
That score held until the first horn and the squads were in full-on game mode as they combined for 12PIMs in both of the first 2 periods. Shout out to Jules Constantinople and Rylie Jones for setting the pace with 4PIMs each. The nasty rolled into the middle frame as Lily Shannon got her first cookie of the year on a 5:3 power play and decided to let the Penn State bench know how high they needed to be to ride the rollercoaster.
I mean is this gorgeous or what? Jones works the puck up to Lily Yovetich at the top of the umbrella and Yovo and Shannon play catch before Shannon goes one-T near side over the shoulder buzz the ear keep the change. I’ll date myself with this reference, but you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t tug on Superman’s cape and you don’t mess around with Lil.
Another fresh face, Caron, got the ENG to ice this one away and like I always say, The Hockey Gods reward hard work and Caron was hustling all night. Great work down in the corner by Bogden to work the puck to the net front.
Taborski got the W, which is all she’s done in her career at NU, not a big deal. And it looks like the moniker Goaltender U can carry on as long as she’s putting up stat lines like this: 1 goal against and a .958% save percentage. I mean, you’d have to say that’s pretty pretty good.

The Huskies are right back at it again tomorrow afternoon: again if you have a B1G Network log in, please help your boy Brownie out would ya?
