Your Northeastern Huskies traveled North tonight to take on the University of New Hampshire Wildcats at the Whittemore Center Arena in their last game of this calendar year. It was a defensive tug-of-war for roughly 56 minutes before NU cashed in to head to their holiday break on the right side of a 2-0 road win.
Oh, you saw the goose egg that UNH put up did you? About that; it’s just the 4th shutout in the 8th game of Lisa Jönsson’s NCAA career. Now I’m not a math guy, but if you’re clocking a shutout in, by my calculations, 50% of your starts I’d say that’s pretty good. Oh yeah, she’s also the defending Hockey East Player of the Month for November. Not a big deal.

But let’s get back to the game. It was a fast-paced affair with chances at both ends, but both Jönsson and Sedona Blair (in the ‘Cats’ net), were up to the task. NU had the edge in every offensive category, but going into the 3rd the teams were knotted at gooses. Actually UNH had a goal wiped off the board in the first (when it was put home with a high stick), so there was no fish toss tonight. I mean the only Carp we want to see at these games is that handsome bearded devil behind the NU bench.

As I said, NU had the edge statistically, but they also dominated the offensive zone time. The game looked much more even when UNH was on the PP, cause yeah it was that lopsided. And both teams got to work on their special teams tonight for sure. The squads combined for 6 man advantages, but neither could solve the goalies. I mean, this wasn’t even her best save of the night but look how easy Jönsson makes it look.
So the teams went deep into the 3rd deadlocked at zeroes. And that’s when Morgan Jackson entered the chat. Ms. Jackson (yeah I’m calling her that cause that drive and dish was NASTY) broke down the LW and dusted 2 UNH defenders with a beauty of an inside out move before putting a perfect sauce over to Éloïse Caron for the put away. I mean the patience of Ms. Jackson to hold that puck and let the defender drop and then a perfect pass to Caron who was driving the net with purpose. So sick. Oh yeah, they’re both freshman (PS: and so is the goalie!)
That was all the Huskies needed but it was good to see Jaden Bogden get the ENG to reward her for all the hard work she’s put in this season so far. Talk about The Hockey Gods rewarding a hard-working player. And again, great poise by Caron to not get rattled by the thrown tossed dropped stick.
So your Huskies head to the break with a 10-6-1 record and tied for 2nd place with BC in the Hockey East standings. It’s time for the team to get a little R&R over the holidays and come back refreshed for a weekend of Merrimack (Fri 1/3) and Holy Cross (Sat 1/4). For those on the squad that are sticking in the area for the break: if you want to get a skate in and feel really good about your game let me know and I’ll get you out there with the beer league beauties I play with.
Also want to give a quick shout out to Taylor Guarino for making her season debut tonight!
Oh yeah, one last thing. My daughter asked me to share this video of Kristina Allard doing the worm in full game gear. She was very impressed and told me to tell Allard that “she could be a professional dancer”. Always good to have a backup plan Kristina.
