Ovechkin Gets The Game Winner, Makes History!

The Capitals headed up to Ottawa Thursday night to play a team that has been on a 3 game winning streak, so it was going to be a battle.

The story as old as time the Caps didn’t play well in the 1st again. The Senators were able to best the Caps when it came to man on man defense but could not get the best of the red hot Logan Thompson. LT notched his second shutout in a row and having a goalie like him makes me very optimistic when it comes to playoff time.

We got to see the return of Jakob Chychrun who has been giving us a glimpse of what we saw when Mike Green was rocking the Capitals sweater. He when healthy is a gamechanger for this team.

Over the 12 minutes of the 2nd period the Capitals played much better defense, but only accumulated one shot on goal (not great). Along with this the Capitals fowards had one shot through 40 minutes and Ovi had ZERO!

After a back and forth 3rd period was easily the Caps best period and multiple chances on their only powerplay of the game but then faded till the overtime period.

Then came OVIertime and after a great play by Rasmus Sandin to get the puck and create the 2 on 1 rush with Ovi to his left. Sandin backhanded it to Ovi then the Gr8 one ripped a wrister past the Sens goalie to give the Caps the 1-0 OT win.

With Ovi’s goal he made NHL history passing Jaromir Jagr for most goaltenders scored on marking 179 different goalie victims, Leevi Merilainen being the latest victim.

This goal also marks his 134th career game-winning goal and is now one goal shy of tying and two goals behind Jagr who has 135 game-winning goals in NHL history.

Oh by the way Ovechkin is now 21 goals away from completing The Gr8 Chase and pass The Great One for most goals in NHL history. Man what a ride it is and still going buckle up Cap’s fans!

Big win and the Caps head home for the big rivalry game against the Pens Saturday night.
