The Capitals were west coasting it on Thursday night against the Seattle Kraken.
The Caps came out buzzin in the 1st which is a rare occurrence the boys had 15 shots to the 9 that Seattle had, but maybe a future trend we would love to see. Fehervary had a goal taken away due to and offside via Nic Dowd during the zone entry.
Aliaksei Protas got the Caps on the board with a nice battle win behind the net and out front where he flicked the puck on the backhand to give the Caps a 1-0 lead.
This was Pro’s 20th of the season which extended his point streak to 3. Protas joins Ovi and Wilson as the 3rd Capital to light the lamp 20 times this season.
Then late in the 2nd the speedy Ethan Frank created his own breakaway and finished his own rebound chance to increase the Capitals lead to 2-0.
Frank netted his 3rd career goal which marked his 4th point in his first 7 games. This guy is a gamer!
Ovechkin finsihed the scoring with an empty netter that he had to work for to guy with his long range attempt.
With this goal Ovi sits at 875 which is now only 20 away from breaking Gretzky’s said to be unbreakable goal scoring record. If he stays at this scoring pace he is expected to break the record on April 10th vs Carolina.
I would be remise to mention that the 39 year old Ovechkin is scoring a near career best rate in his 20th NHL season.
Charlie Lindgren was lights out last night notching his first shutout this season, this coming off an injury too. The Caps have posted 3 shutouts in their last 5 games and two of those were on the road.
The Caps best period was easily the 2nd where they dominated all facets of the game which led to Seattle not having a shot on goal for almost 15 minutes.
Was glad to see Fehervary get back on the ice in the 3rd after getting smoked with a puck to the face. You just can’t teach that type of grit unlike that babyshit soft Mahomes guy who looks like an injured ballerina on the football field.
The Capitals have killed off 12 straight opponent powerplays since Jan 11th. As well as notching a 12 game point streak (9-0-3) and are only giving up 1.58 GA/GP. Boys are on a god damn heater!
Also, was cool to see ASU Sun Devil Alum Joey Daccord starting for the Kraken got to see him play when ASU was still playing in a beer league barn. He played solid tonight just wasn’t better thank Chucky.
The Capitals are back in action on this road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
