We made it – It’s Trade Deadline day and the Rangers have been busy. First, the Rangers sent Lindgren and Vesey to Colorado for Juuso Pärssinen and Calvin de Haan. It’s only been a couple games but for all intents and purposes, this deal has looked good. Pärssinen has good size, some speed, and has even dropped the mits while sticking up for a teammate – something even Mika Zibanejad said was cool.
"I feel like our group is coming together more and more."

de Haan has been a steady presence on the backend and seems to just make the right plays. If you’re looking for razzle and dazzle – look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a steady game in which pucks are kept to the outside, and moved up quickly, than de Haan is your man.
We knew the Rangers we’re going to ship Reilly Smith out of town and that thought became a reality when Chris Drury sent his ass packing to Vegas for another prospect in forward Brendan Brisson and a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
Brisson was once a first round pick and while there is some talent still there, I’m more excited about his last name. Why is that? It’s because his father is a super agent for NHL hockey players. There’s even one in particular who will be a free agent after next season.

Chris Drury is playing chess while all ya’ll Twitter GMs are playing checkers.
Was he done? I don’t think so.

So essentially Chris Drury sent Reilly Smith to Vegas for Brendan Brisson and Carson Soucy. Now – hand up – I don’t know much about Soucy. The first thing I saw were several tweets saying the Rangers got fleeced. After seeing this I did what I normally do when the Rangers get a new player – I went to hockeyfights.com to see if this player is physically engaged. At 6/5 I was hoping to see some videos and I did. Soucy has been in several fights and although he’s never really won one, I still think this is a positive thing. He’s not afraid, he’s willing. He’s even willing to go with JT Miller.
Right off the bat he’s already checked a box. What else could make me feel good about this?
Something to note about Carson Soucy, he and Will Borgen played over 470 minutes as a pair together in Seattle in 2022-23.@NYRangersRadio | #NYR pic.twitter.com/K5KuXNXCJd

Oh hell yeah we have another connection. Borgen has been really good for the Rangers in his stint thus far and even more familiarity might add more to his game.
Soucy has shown to be a good shutdown D his whole career. This year has been rough, but Vancouver has been a total mess, so have to hope, similar to Borgen, that he bounces back on #NYR pic.twitter.com/9XcA5hOwyy

I am such a slut for a redemption story. Check another box.
My final point is that I would trust the opinion and knowledge of the situation from JT Miller than any of the Rangers Twitters GMs out there – you know exactly who I’m talking about.
JT Miller called Soucy and made the big apple pitch to him.

I guess Soucy has a small family and was really taking his time trying to figure out if he wanted to leave Vancouver. Do you think JT Miller is calling any shlub to get him to move to NY? Come on man. If there were a player on the roster that I had to choose who would suggest acquiring a player or help in doing so – JT Miller would be the player. It’s early but this is JT Millers team. He’s single handedly dragged Mika Zibanejad back into being a real life hockey player. His energy has rubbed off on the Blueshirts. They’re finishing their checks, they’re backchecking hard to the house, they’re doing all of the little things that elite teams need to do to make life hell for the opposition.
Is Drury done? There is a smoke around potential talks with the Sabres regarding JJ Peterka – and when there is smoke, normally there is fire – especially with the Rangers who are a team that generally keeps things pretty close to the vest.
I love this shit. This team has me believing again.
The next two are big. The Rangers play in Ottawa Saturday and at home against Columbus on Sunday. If you’re a real playoff team, a team that needs to be taken seriously – win both games. The Devils are cooked. Every team that needed to lose, lost last night. It ain’t over until it’s over. Here we go Souc, have a game kid.
