The Capitals faced off against the St. Louis Blues in D.C. Tuesday night in the search for two points and Ovi still searching the 900 milestone.
The Caps got on the board first via the powerplay off a John Carlson point shot that was deflected nicely by Tom Wilson for the 1-0 lead. This was Wilson’s team leading 7th goal and his 4th power play goal of the season which is tied for 4th most in the NHL.
Then in the second the greatest goal scored in NHL history made some more history off a nonchalant blind spinning backhand into a wide open net where Binnington was way out of the crease. Ovechkin is the first player EVER to reach 900 goals!
As if the 900 milestone wasn’t enough Binner wanted to take home the historic puck as a souvenir like no one would notice dude is such a clown.
Anthony Beauvillier scored on the backhand to make it 3-0 Caps, but the goal was so wide open because Ovi was on the opposite doorstep which cause Binnington to cheat to the right side of the net leaving the net wide open.
Then later in the 2nd John Carlson got on the board by stealing a clearing attempt then scored on a little spin cycle of his own to make it 4-0 Caps.
Then off a bouncing puck that Wilson almost hit with his hand which would have negated the goal found its way to Beauvillier’s stick who then roofed it to make it 5-0 Caps.
Then in the 3rd the Blues got a shorthanded goal off whiffed clearing attempt in front of Logan Thompson who couldn’t stop the shot by Alexey Torochenko 5-1 Caps.
The Capitals got another goal from Tom Wilson to make it the 6-1 final.
We also saw a nice quick tilt with Brayden Schenn and Brandon Duhaime who tried to get some momentum back for the Blues but it was all for nothing.
Overall great effort tonight it was nice finally seeing the offense this team is capable of when it wants to. Aside from Ovi the line of Lapierre, Leonard and Milano was looking pretty damn good with a ton of shots on net from that line.
The boys a nice two points but are back at it again tomorrow vs Crosby and co.
