The Washington Capitals headed to Detroit City to face the Red Wings Thursday night in what has been a less than successful road trip.
Nic Dowd got the Caps on the board first with a nice snapshot between two Detroit defenders to give the boys a 1-0 lead in the 1st.
Ben Chiarot got the Wings on the board via a wide open slap shot from the point from a Kaner feed.
With that assist from Kaner he becomes the all time scoring leader among U.S. born players passing Mike Modano. Really wish he was invited to the Olympics instead old ass Brock Nelson.

Then in the 3rd with the score tied Dylan Strome found the rebound in front of the net to beat the Wings goalie on a great hustle play for the wraparound to make it 2-1 Caps. Strome has recorded a team leading 20 points in the last 21 games.
Then Declan Chisholm gets his first goal of the season of a deflection from a point shot attempt. To give the Caps the 3-1 lead with 5 minutes left in the game.
Then with the Wings net empty the point shot attempt blocked caused a scramble in front of the net where the Caps couldn’t clear it and Alex DeBrincat gathered the loose puck and banged it home to make it 3-2 with 1:40 left in the 3rd.
Then with less than a minute left we saw one of the weirdest goals in NHL history. Debrincat went to dump the puck in and somehow it hit the camera hole on the glass and it ricocheted past a unsuspecting Lindgren. 3-3 game heading to overtime.
Nothing of mention in overtime so we headed to the shootout.
Then the boys went 3 for 3 on shootout attempts via Strome, Leonard, and Dowd.
Not an ideal win but a win is a win. Also what a gritty performance by Charlie Lindgen who had to be carried off by his teammates to the locker-room. So that’s two goalies hurt with Thompson who was out with and upper body injury.
The Capitals finally head back to D.C. where they take on the Hurricanes Saturday night.
