Last night the Washing Capitals crushed the New Jersey Devils 5-2. If you weren’t watching the Rangers put another beat down on the Islanders and caught the game, you would have seen a historical night. Alex Ovechkin had a trick and became the 3rd player in NHL history to record 15 consecutive 30 goal seasons. He joins the company of Mike Gartner and Jaromir Jagr.
Ovi’s entire career has been historical. He’s been a machine since the moment he entered the league. His lethal shot along with his strength, speed, and agility probably makes him the best pure goal scorer of all time. At the very least, he’s the best of the current generation.
Number 8 finds himself chasing one record that would be beyond historical if he stays on this pace. That’s the honor of having the most goals in NHL history. Is it obtainable though? AO is 200 goals back from the Great One. Ovi being 34 years old and showing no signs of slowing down has a legit shot at catching Gretzky. As long as he stays healthy and doesn’t get caught with his steroid use (that’s a joke, but he’s Russian so ya never know) he will most likely surpass Wayne Gretzky.
Time will tell with Ovi and the ultimate record. It’s still amazing though even if he doesn’t reach it. A record that was said to be unbreakable and is now in contention of being broken in a style that makes scoring goals so difficult is awesome. Good luck number 8.
