LINK: The Hurricanes were one of only two NHL teams that voted “no” on the return to play proposal that was overwhelmingly approved last week with 24 teams qualifying for a postseason that includes a play-in round to get things going.
“For where we were and where our team thought we could get to, it hurts our odds,” said Martinook on a Zoom call with reporters. “It’s not like we didn’t want to play or anything, it’s just that we felt this particular option maybe didn’t benefit us and it’s not gonna benefit every team. This is just the stance that we took. (This format) doesn’t really benefit the teams that are in 5, 6, 7 and 8 so it kinda hinders those teams. Then it obviously gives a lot to 9, 10, 11 and 12. It didn’t really benefit our team in any way.”
Poetic really. If you know me, you know I’m a gigantic Rangers fan and hate everything about the fun boys from Raleigh. There’s nothing in this world that makes me tremble more than a bunch of grown men pretending to have a field day on the ice after a win with tens of fans in the stands crying and bowing like its some sort of cult.
The Rangers swept the season series and even traded one of their homegrown defenseman to a Hurricanes team that is on the verge of tears. “Woah is me! How can this happen! Oh my goodness, this was supposed to be fun!” Are the Rangers going to bully the Hurricanes?
Maybe it was Brendan Lemieux giving them wet Willys on TV.
Maybe it’s the fact that they have trouble protecting one another
To be honest, I don’t care. I love this. The Rangers are about to eliminate the Hurricanes before the playoffs even start. I’m not a big gambling guy but if there’s a time to do it, its when you bet against a team who is staring down their opponent with tears in there eyes and pee running down their leg.
