The Washington Capitals fell in game 2 against the Bruins 4-3 in OT.
If you watched the #BattleOfFlorida game Sunday night it was very clear Monday that the Capitals and Bruins watched the entirety of that game, because on Monday that game was clearly more physical than game 1 was.
The Caps played a tough physical game for all 3 periods going back and forth going goal for goal.
The B’s got on the board first with another playoff goal from Jake DeBrusk on a defensive miscue from Dillon and Anderson leaving the whole backside of the net wide open. This was one of those goals it was clear Anderson was still rusty given he has only played 4 games in the last 10 plus months.
Captain America TJ Oshie got the boys on the board on a deflection coming from an Ovechkin shot to tie the game back up soon after the B’s goal.
Then Boston’s top line finally produced with a goal from Bergeron.
Then soon after Hathaway answered with a goal of his own tipping a shot from Oshie to tie the game before the end of the first period.
The second period went scoreless with stellar goaltending from both sides, but I am personally surprised with the play of Anderson given how cold he was coming in, so props to him. I said it since he came in relief though the Caps will not make a serious run with him in net, I hate to say it but its the truth and if you can’t see that then maybe actually watch the game.
Then early in the third Garny got his second of the night on the offensive rush with a nice setup from Orlov to give the Caps the lead in the third, until the final minutes of regulation where Taylor Hall bested Anderson to tie the game at 3 a piece.
Then we head to overtime where it was over before it even started with a bad line change and defense out of position Brad the rat Marchand took advantage and won it for Boston
The series is not tied 1-1 heading to Boston for two games.
Given the Caps having a cold goaltender they have been neck and neck with an experienced and ready Rask. The Caps are going to need to keep this up to win this series or until VV is ready to go, because last night Copley was the backup not Samsonov.
Lars Eller left the game during the second with what appeared to be a lower body injury. So hopefully he can go in game 3.
I also saw this stat that blew my mind in the last 11 playoff games between the Caps and Bruins they have all gone to OT that is a literally insane stat that I didn’t think was possible. Hopefully the boys can make it easy for us and win it in regulation next game.
Also we have yet to see a playoff overtime winning goal from the Great 8, if we can see Ovi net an playoff overtime winner that could change the series momentum big time in my opinion!
