Hurricanes Strike First

The Hurricanes opened their preseason on Tuesday, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. There were some familiar faces on both sides, especially if you’re a hockey fan in general. The returning members that played are Teuvo Teravainen, Vincent Trocheck, and Steven Lorentz. However, hockey fans will be familiar with Freddie Andersen (Formerly of Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks), Derek Stepan (New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes), Ian Cole (Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche), Stefan Noesen (Anaheim Ducks, Norfolk Admirals) and a few others.

Andersen looked to be having a great start. The Hurricanes got the first penalty of the game- Jesper Sellgren for Interference. Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored the first goal for the Hurricanes on a power play, 9:37 of the first period-his first in a Carolina Hurricanes uniform.

Three minutes before the end of the period, Teravainen scored a Power Play Goal, making it 2-0 Hurricanes.

In the second period, Jack Drury scored to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead. However, on simple turnovers and mistakes, led to a Lightning goal. Granted it’s preseason and it’s good to find the line/ defense pairings chemistry early. Thankfully, the Hurricanes kept this lead and won the first preseason game.

The Hurricanes play Friday, October 1st, at 7:00PM at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay. You can most likely watch it via the same link you watched the game on Tuesday.
