Every team is putting out Season Previews or Preseason Predictions, saying things loud and confidently about their team. And truth be told, who knows with the Wings? If you’ve bought into the Yzerplan, which I have since day 1, you’re just sitting back and watching the rebuild take shape. If the team is competitive, and shows improvement, it will be a successful season. If the team is playing some meaningful games in March and April, better yet.
The preseason gives everyone the chance to see what the organization has. The announce team said it the best during the Red/Wing game, saying you have a lot of roster spots that are up in the air. The players that can put up points, make plays and gives the team the best chance to win will be playing at Hot N Ready Arena once the season starts. Did I check all cliché boxes? Skaters skate, playmakers make plays, shooters shoot, scorers score… tendies.. tend?
I’m excited to see the roster come together and if they don’t make the main roster, we’ll see them in Grand Rapids or dare I say (dare, dare but doubt it), in Toledo. There are a lot of questions; Moritz Seider (love him), Lucas Raymond (Blashill’s wife loves him), Bobby Ryan (everyone loves him) and then that question of who is going to play with who. And with Jackub Vrana down for at least 4 months (shoulder), it opens another roster spot.
Also Mitchell Stephens, it may be the preseason overreaction, but this is a dude.. this the second blog I wrote about the Wings that ended with Mitchell Stephens, and I’m okay with that. Keep lighting the lamp. (I knew I missed one hockey cliché phrase)
The USHL (Juniors) starts the regular season this weekend.

If you’re not familiar with this organization, it is the best junior players the country has to offer and look at the NHL Draft, and you will find plenty of draft picks from this team. Alumni include but are not limited to; Dylan Larkin, Auston Matthews, Patrick Kane, Quinn Hughes, Phil Kessel.. I could go on, and I will at some point.
