Well folks we are officially back on the ice for the NHL season and it couldn’t have started any better in my opinion especially after the Ovi injury scare, but he is just built different and he clearly showed why on Wednesday night!
This season Caps beat the Rangers handily and honestly made them look like an AHL team at some points, which is always nice against a team that thinks they are tougher than yours.
The 2021-2022 season scoring got started off by none other than Captain America TJ Oshie on the power-play who was rocking the A since Backy was out of the lineup.
Then came the goal from the rookie our sweet prince Hendrix Lapierre who I think is going to have a huge season for us, oh yeah he is ONLY 19!!! Lappy took a nice feed from Oshie and netted his first NHL goal in his first NHL game (Not a big deal). The best part of the goal was how Oshie celebrated with him it was almost like a father watching his son take home a girl from the bar for his first time. Oh yeah don’t forget we have Connor McMichael waiting in the wing for his chance which he will get this season to make some noise. So the people that are saying the Caps are washed and old hold this!
Let’s be honest though the season doesn’t officially start till the Gr8 one gets on the board (on the power play shocker I know) and boy did he. Ovi scored goals 731 & 732 moving him past Marcel Dionne to be all alone at 5th on the all time goal scoring list!
Also, I hate to have even mention it, but I have to because the Rangers acted like this game was their Stanley Cup and big bad Ryan Reaves was gonna put the Caps (Wilson) in their place. Reaves had an unreal stat line of 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 fights and 11 minutes of ice time! Wow Reavo really changed the culture in NY the league needs to be on notice going forward.
Overall for a first game for a team that didn’t make any offseason moves and lost some guys I’d like to give game one a B+ grade because we couldn’t keep the shutout against this inferior NY team but VV looked great in net and as I mentioned before I think the Caps will go with goalie by committee depending on who is playing the best night in and night out, but hey if you had the over/under of 6 goals at least we got a push so no one lost money so that’s always a W!
I would be remiss not to mention how awesome it was to see and hear a full Capital One Arena again. I know everyone who attended had to feel like it was their first game ever since its been so long since we have been able to have a full crowd.
The Capitals are back in action tomorrow at 7pm ET against the defending Stanley Cup Champions the Tampa Bay Lighting.
Caps also got a new pup named Biscuit man is there anything that goes better than dogs and hockey!
