Tyler Bertuzzi and Pius Suter with 2 goals a piece and the Wings wreck San Jose, Love to see it..
Lucas Raymond pass on Larkin Goal
Yes, can’t be a post without paying homage to the rookies. Great pass by Lucas Raymond to catch Dylan Larkin with speed, who scores with the snipe piece. Can’t say enough about this top line. Bertuzzi/Raymond/Larkin. 2 goals by Tyler Bertuzzi, 1 by Larkin tonight. Shame that Hatty-watch for Bertuzzi came to an end with 10 minute game misconduct.. on a line scuffle. Damn near donnybrook.
Givani Smith Hit on Middleton
This is one I’m so disappointed Mickey Redmond wasn’t on the call. Can only imagine…
Contact to the head as his momentum carried his elbow follow through, yes, can’t argue that. From what I understand, the focus is “if you see numbers, stop” especially up against the boards. Smith did slow up, and he still made contact. It’s a penalty, no doubt. 5 and a game misconduct, I don’t know. The 5 minutes come at the discretion of the ref… but there have hits on Wings players so much worse than this all season long with no call. Be consistent. Even after a review…
Those two did have a fight in the opening minutes of the game, wonder if that played into the call.
Anyway… 2 short handed goals 37 seconds apart on the 5 minutes major… not so bad. First shorty in 101 games. Now if they could figure out the power play, that’d be great but it did look better tonight.
Wes McCauley Appreciation
Love the spark and personality that is starting to come out with players but how about more referees? Gotta love Wes McCauley, even if he’s a former Michigan State Spartan but he was drafted by the Red Wings in 1990, guess it evens out.
No one calls penalties like the legend.
COVID sucks… (cont’d)
Just as the last Wing, Nick Leddy, comes off the COVID protocol. Chris Osgood and Mickey Redmond were off the call tonight as they were placed on the protocol. Best to both.
