After a points galore Tuesday night against the pathetic Flyers the Caps take a bad loss against the playoff cliched Leafs 3-7.
The Caps went scoreless in the 1st and went into intermission down 2 by goals from Bunting and Nylander. This 1st period was one of the worst showings from this Caps team in a long time. There was just an overall lack of effort and motivation it seemed like from afar.
Tom Wilson also got into it with Toronto when he was moving towards the net and was knocked into Toronto’s goalie Jack Campbell as he came out of his crease to poke check the puck right as Wilson was moving to make a play on the puck. Wilson got a penalty on the play which was questionable in my opinion because Muzzin initiated contact with Wilson first which then carried their momentum towards Campbell.
John Carlson started the scoring in the 2nd with some dirty dangles from our veteran D-man. This was Carlson’s 15th of the season which ties his career high and now has ten points in his last five games. The boy is RED hot right now.
This wasn’t enough to get the momentum going for the Caps seeing that Toronto scored 4 unanswered in a row before the next Caps goal which came via Tom Wilson one-timer before the close of the 2nd period.
Our goaltending situation is becoming more and more of a liability each week which is less than ideal as we get closer to playoffs. Both Sammy and VV are restricted Free Agents at the end of the season so Brian MacLellan has some big questions come this offseason. (Side note) I am still fine we didn’t try and get a goalie at the trade deadline because we would have had to give up to much for a high quality goalie.
At least Tommy showed some fight (literally) beating the wheels off Clifford.
The most shocking thing of the game is that Toronto had 7 goals and Auston Matthews had ZERO I’ll take that side win.
Washington gets to stay in the great white north as they play the Habs on Saturday, lets hope for a better showing overall.
