What an exciting and gritty 4-2 win by our beloved Caps in Game 1 against Florida. Crazy enough it was the first time ever that Florida and Washington have met in the NHL postseason and it did not disappoint.
The scoring got started by our own Tom Wilson off a nice rebound shot from the point by Anthony Mantha.
Then Sam Bennett of Florida tied the game on poor defensive play on a 1v2 rush that also Vanecek needs to stop if the Caps want to make a serious run this playoffs.
Then, early in the second newly acquired Panther Claude Giroux had a silky move to beat VV and give Florida the lead.
The game changing play came in the third by who other than our Captain Alex Ovechkin created an incredible turnover opportunity which kicked to Kuznetsov on a breakaway and on a little backhand forehand thank you very much beat Bobrovsky to tie the game and the bird celly made its 2022 playoff debut!
Later the Caps took the lead on a beautiful apple from Backstrom to an aggressive net crashing Oshie to give the Caps the 3-2 lead.
Then the Caps sealed the deal on honestly a very difficult empty net goal by Eller to give the Caps and early 1-0 series lead.
Overall I was honesly surpsied the gameplan the Caps had in place to slow down and force the fast paced Panther offense to dump and chase almost the whole game and it clearly paid off.
Also, even though Wilson got the Caps on the board early his night ended quicker than it started. We have been kind of in the dark on what happen to him coulda been from one of the hits he delivered. I guess the lower body injury occurred during this third shift. If he is unable to go Thursday Axel Johnsson-Fjallby or Connor McMichael will be the guys to replace him.
Scumbag of the night goes to Mason Marchment. This dude was a pest the whole night whether it was jawing with guys after whistles or the penalty he caused on Fehervary where he was clearly holding the Caps stick causing the ref to call holding on Martin. Hopefully someone cleans his clock later in this series.
Overall, I liked what I saw from Vitek Vanecek minus the soft goal he gave up to Bennett, but he should locked it in when we needed him and got us the W!
The boys are back in action for Game 2 Thursday night in that shithole that is Florida.
