We put out this picture earlier last week and it kind of blew up and rightfully so. I mean, could you imagine walking through the woods to a pond that has Greztky, Lemieux, Gordie, Jagr, Bure, Lindros and Kariya? Listening in to a conversation between the Great One and Lindros as Mighty Duck music plays in the background- so elegant, so pure. A passing of the torch as arguably the top 3 players ever to lace the skates check out 4 players who should have been the next coming, if not for injuries. It’s actually pretty jarring that Jagr was really the only one out of those 4 to carve out a long career in the NHL. If not for Scott Stevens and a fresh set of knees, Lindros, Kariya and Bure would have continued to dominate the sport we love.
Having said all of this, if you had to pick the next coming 4 players on the pond who would it be? I think the only 3 shoe-ins would be Crosby, Ovechkin and McDavid – following that there are a bunch of names you could put in there – Matthews, Kane, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Stamkos, Panarin.
Who would be your 4 to replace Lindros, Kariya, Bure and Jagr?
