Another day another record is broken by the Gr8 Alex Ovechkin this time he is officially numero uno on the NHL’s all time list for most goals with a single franchise!

On Saturday night the boys were rocking the new reverse retro 2.0 blacks and man did they look clean I knew they would look good when the image of them released, but this being the first time seeing them on the ice as a group I was blown away how good they looked! Also weird how sports work moment that Ovi’s first goal came in a black jersey and now his franchise record setting goal also came in a black jersey.

Unfortunately that didn’t translate on the final score sheet because the Caps lost to the Coyotes 2-3 yes the Arizona Coyotes (eye roll). I know we are extremely injured top to bottom right now but we CANT lose to the Yotes!

Ok rant over lets get back to the record that was broken.

The Caps took the early 1-0 lead on the record breaking goal by Ovechkin beating Yotes goalie Karel Vejmelka on the power-play shocker I know, oh and it was scored from the top of the left circle, again shocker I know.

Ovi’s record setting goal moved him past the great Gordie Howe for most goals with one franchise, and Alex did it in 400 less games!

This was Ovi’s 7th goal in 13 games and his 4th on the power-play.

With the power-play goal by Alex Ovechkin beating Vejmelka it was the 162nd different goalie Alex has scored on during his career. This is only 16 goals behind Jaromir Jagr for most goals scored against different goalies which Jagr’s record is at 178.

Ovi also passed his former coach Adam Oates for 19th on the NHL all-time points list with 1,421.

Alex is now only 15 goals behind Gordie Howe and Gretzky by 107 for the all-time NHL goals list he is inching closer and closer to more history!

The Caps are back in action tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.
