The NHL is a prove it league and Dylan Strome might not be proud of the beginning half of his NHL career as the 3rd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by Arizona, but he has more than proven his worth for the Washington Capitals this season!
Stromer in 52 games played has notched 11 goals and 25 assists for a total of 36 points. With these stats Strome has also brought an exuberance to the team that is on average the oldest in the NHL.
It has also helped him tremendously that he is at his best when paired with Alex Ovechkin and Conor Sheary as line mates. HEY LAVY I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING!!!!! Don’t get cute with this line leave it!
On Friday the Capitals announced that they have signed Dylan Strome to an extension of 5 years for $25 million. This will keep Strome in Washington through the 2028 season barring a future trade of course.
Strome was initially signed for a1 year $3.5 million dollar contract at the beginning of this season. He was primarily brought in due to the uncertainty of Nicklas Backstrom and his recovery from his serious hip surgery.
There was a reason he was the 3rd overall pick in his draft because the talent is there, it just needed to be paired with the right team and right situation, which I think Strome has found in Washington.
With this resigning it probably means Eller will not be resigned in the off-season, because we have guys with the names of Connor McMichael, Aliaksei Protas, and Hendrix Lapierre all solid prospects in waiting to take over a center role in the NHL.
Also with how stacked those names are with talent if the Caps are buyers at the Trade Deadline look for one or two of those names to be moved in a trade. My guess is Lapierre would be first then McMichael, but Lapierre is lighting it up down in Hershey so I could be wrong who knows.
All I know is this was one of the guys we needed to re-sign and next will be Sonny Milano.
For now enjoy the All Star Break and lets get back to some Ws next week!
