Whenever the Caps and Pens meet its always a battle and potential playoff matchup upcoming, but as of right now it is looking like both teams will miss the playoffs and are sellers at the trade deadline.
Tommy Wilson got the boys on the board first on a nice shorthanded 2 v 1 rush and nice pass from Malenstyn, Wilson fired one on net then smack the rebound out of the air and into the goal talk about hand eye coordination. The headed into the 1st intermission with a 1-0 lead.
Then after a Pen’s penalty at the start of the 2nd period the Caps were able to answer with a bouncing puck in front which was cleaned up and put home by the GR8 one and now has 10 goals in his last 15 games. This marks Ovi’s 18th of the season and 840 of his career. This goal also put him tied with Paul Coffey at 1,531 career points which he later passed on his assist on Lappy’s goal. 2-0 Caps
After an explosive offensive transition from Washington lead by Malenstyn and his twisted wrister which caused a juicy rebound which was finished by Jensen. This was Nick’s first goal of the season. The field goal is good 3-0 good guys.
Still in the 2nd van Riemsdyk tossed the puck in front to a slightly open Hendrix Lapierre who then spun and shot all in one motion to beat the Pens goalie low short side. Lappy has 6 points since Feb 26th which ranks second among NHL rookies. 4-0 Capitals
Late in the 2nd with Strome behind the net backhanded a pass out front of the crease where a waiting Ivan Miroshnichenko was waiting for the goal and the first of his NHL career. The first rounder in the 2022 draft who two years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He received a call from Mario Lemieux, who battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 92-93 and told him “Life doesn’t end. You’re going to recover.” What a trooper and shows how much heart the kid has!
Finally, the 2nd period has ended 5-0 Capitals in the lead.
Then a little into the 3rd period the curly headed man Sonny Milano reached the goal-line from a knee for the touchdown and the score. This was Sonny’s second point of the game and now has scored in his last four games dating back to Feb 24th.
Also, on the goal Dylan Strome recorded his 3rd assist of the game making his first 3 assist game of the season and 5th of his career.
Capitals win 6-0 in Shittsburg!
Lets talk about Charlie Lindgren dude was lights out tonight stopped all 39 shots he faced to earn his 4th shutout of the season and 6th of his career. This was also his 14th win of the season marking a new single season career high. His stock couldn’t be higher right now if a contender needs a goalie he should be it and hopefully gets us a great return.
The Caps have owned the Pens as of late winning 5 out of the last 6.
Also, some loser made Tom Wilson bleed his own blood nobodies allowed to do that! Wilson got stitched up and got back on the ice would never see an NBA guy do this.
The boys showed heart tonight and it felt like they had more life than we are usually used to seeing.
Oh for those who were wondering Crosby was -3, Malkin – 3, and Letang -4 you just hate to see it LOL.
