Capitals Clinch, Ovi 7 Away!

The Capitals beat the Flyers Thursday night, when it seemed like an easy win it turned into a hold on tight type of game. In the end we bested them 3-2 and clinched the playoffs!

The Great 8 eliminates the goose egg with a nice feed by Protas for an easy tap in goal, 1-0 Caps.

This was Ovi’s 888th of his career making him only seven goals away from Gretzky.

Ovechkin, is now tied for fourth in the NHL in goals this season at age 39, has scored 182 in goals in 327 games since turning 35. Ovechkin’s 0.56 goals-per-game rate among players age 35 or older is the highest in NHL history. He also has 52 goals in 78 games vs Philly, which is the second-most goals he has scored against a franchise. He owns Philly.

Then at the start of the second from a pass behind the net to Roy he fired it to the net and was deflected beautifully by Duhaime to beat the Flyer’s goalie, 2-0 Caps. This was his 8th of the season and Roy’s 20th apple of the season.

Then later on a nice 3 v 1 rush Beauvillier found Mangiapane who sniped one past the Philly goalie to make it a 3-0 lead for the Capitals. This was Beau’s first multi-assist game on the season.

We head to the third with a 3 goal lead, but the Flyers get one early to end the shutout by the hands of Ryan Poehling attacking Lindgren infront of the net, 3-1 Caps.

The Flyers were able to get another one after a challenge after goalie interference was called where we say a sprawling Lindgren on his back which looked like he had stopped the puck but after review the puck was still loose and Couturier was able to sneak it into the net, 3-2 Caps.

The Caps played well and controlled the majority of the game but for the love of god I don’t know how they committed yet another too many men penalty AGAIN! This is their freaking 13th on the season! Come on boys my beer league team even knows not to commit these stupid penalties.

We also saw Carlson get a goal taken away poor guy hasn’t scored since January. It looked like it was touched by a Flyer’s skate but was ruled a hand pass.

The Flyers played like a completly different team than we saw in the first two periods and battled their way back but it was too little too late.

The Caps are back at it Saturday to faceoff agaisnt the Florida Panthers.
