A mere 11 days after tragedy struck, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS Hockey won two games today to win the Lightning High School Hockey League Tier 1 state title.
Thursday night, Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo gave a heartfelt pregame speech before his game against the Washington Capitals that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. As a Parkland resident himself, Luongo praised the students and staff of Stoneman Douglas for their bravery, and everything that they’ve done in the days since the tragedy.
I can’t claim to know how these kids feel, but Luongo is right, “enough is enough”. No one should have to go through what these kids have experienced. And this is an amazing feat that deserves recognition, on top of all of the great things the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas have accomplished in the past days. Being able to take the ice so soon after a tragedy so horrific is something to be admired. Taking the ice and absolutely dominating a team to win the state championship after coming into the playoffs as the bottom seed.
Hat’s off to these kids.
