I HATE whenever 11 players show up to the rink. I immediately know that I’m going to get in an argument with every single defenseman on the squad. As a forward, I can’t stand playing with odd numbers. It is so much easier to play with even lines when it comes to line changes and chemistry, yes I’m aware that using the term “chemistry” when it comes to beer league makes me a loser. This “rule” of always having even D makes no sense to me, never has never will. Back when I had my own team during summers we would always roll out an odd number of D and even though they’d bitch and moan we’d win games. It’s time to ask fans of The Morning Skate and beer league players: When your team has 11 guys do you roll an even number of forwards lines or roll through keeping 4 D on the squad. Not only that, but let us know the reasoning. Personally, I feel like this is one of the biggest debates of all time when it comes to beer league so for sure let us know.
4 wings, 3 centers, 4 D

All things equal (having a player that can play either position) you go 5 D. Easier to make a change, less likely to get a too many men bc of confusion and it evens out throughout the season. We are just as likely to have 9 guys which results in 3 D. Ice time evens out.
