If you’re like most hockey fans, you’re also a fan of EA Sports’ NHL video game series. The games have blended a fun, video game experience with as much realistic gameplay as possible to appeal to all hockey fans. Hell, the games are actually what got me into hockey in the first place. Arguably the games’ most notable trait, however, is having amazing soundtracks. They haven’t been as great in more recent iterations of the game as they used to be, but the 2000s and early 2010s NHL soundtracks absolutely slapped.
One of the reasons NHL soundtracks are so great is because of their selection of songs that we all listened to during our angsty punk rock phase and it drums up a sense of nostalgia. Punk rock songs was all over 2000s NHL soundtracks, as Sum 41, Trapt and Paramore filled our ears. Then the 2010s came along and the games decided to make the perfect mix of classic rock, slightly heavy metal, and more angsty punk rock to perfectly fit a hockey game. Some great songs that come to mind are: Rock You Like a Hurricane, Unstoppable, and In the End, just to name a few. We all have those songs from the soundtracks that just take us back and that’s part of the reason I love playing the older games now. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the older games are miles better than the current ones? Yes, but the soundtrack is also a contributing factor.
Anyway, I like to go listen to the NHL soundtracks on Spotify. Sometimes I’ll play it on a long drive, before I go work out, or honestly as I’m playing the newer NHL games. The only issue with that is having to just listen to one game’s soundtrack at a time. Luckily, a couple wonderful people on Spotify decided to remedy this, and I think I found the best one.
This guy put together about 2.5 hours of some of the best songs in NHL history. A lot of hockey Tik Tok people (sorry if that’s the wrong term I’m not on Tik Tok) have been curating their top 10 NHL songs playlist, and this basically has every song they list. Now, don’t get me wrong, some really good songs have been left off, but that’s just my opinion. Maybe to you this is every single one of your favorite songs all in one, and I hope it is cause you guys are awesome. There are a few other playlists others have created, but I think this one really nails it. But hey, y’all might think differently. And before you ask, yes, Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World is on all of them. It is the greatest NHL song of all time and it is not up for debate.
