In the battle of superstars Ovechkin and McJesus faced off and boy did they show out!

Whenever there are two generational talents facing off the hockey world takes notice.

Even with the star power names like Ovechkin and McDavid it was one of the lesser names notching the score sheet first.

It was Dylan Strome with an incredible defensive play to cause the Oiler turnover and “capitalize” on it immediately to give the Caps the early 1-0 lead.

The Caps did an incredible job defensively in the 1st period keeping the red hot McDavid & Draisaitl at bay which is no easy task, especially for an injury ridden Capitals team.

Then Stromer was able to add to his contribution with a nice deflection goal off the Kuzy shot pass to make it 2-0 Caps. This was Strome’s seventh career multi-goal game and his fourth multi-point night in 14 games this season, which is the most on this Capitals team.

Now I usually don’t post the other teams goals in my blogs because I don’t like to show any positives to our opponent, BUT when Connor McDavid does McDavid alien-like things I have to share because this goal was absurd he made the Cap’s look like an over 30 Tuesday night beer league team on this goal and you can’t even be mad on this one, just have to tip your hat and say holy shit that was insane.

Then the bird man (Kuzy) extended the lead with a nice feed from who else Strome to beat the Oiler’s tendy to make it a two goal lead.

Then Ovechkin was able to add another goalie to his graveyard list by scoring on 163rd different goaltender (Stuart Skinner) in his career and his 788th goal of his career and 8th of the season to extend his point streak to 6 games.

Ovi has scored against a new goalie in 3 consecutive games now.

The Oilers made it 4-3 early in the 3rd period.

I have to mention how well Charlie Lindgren played tonight especially against this high powered offense and made some incredible saves and provided a great effort all 3 periods. For any of you clown fans that tries to complain about goaltending, it has been one of our bright spots this season so if your going to complain it should be the lack of effort on the defensive end not the goalie.

Then we were given an incredible goal by Kuzy with an eye popping pass from Ovi to beat the Oiler goalie.

Overall the Caps gave an incredible effort for the majority of the game minus the 3rd and held the Oilers in check for the most part aside from some McDavid magic.

Gustafsson & Strome have been a breath of fresh air this season so far that we really needed so thanks to that current pathetic organization in Chicago for two solid guys who we got for nothing in return.

Gustafsson is the first Capital to record three power play assists in a game since Marcus Johansson did it in 2017 against the Wild.

We also saw the Caps debut of Nicolas Aube-Kubel and season debut for Lucas Johansen, both played up to snub and especially for Aube-Kuble who truck sticked that financial failure Evander Kane.

The Capitals also went 4-for-5 on the power play against Edmonton. Washington’s four power play goals are tied for the fourth most in a single game in franchise history.

The three stars of the game:

Kuznetsoz: 2 goals, 2 Assists, 4 SOG

Strome: 2 goals, 1 Assist, 4 SOG

Gustafsson: 3 Assists, 2 Hits, 3 Blocks

The Caps are back in action tomorrow versus Pittsburgh.
