Smoking on that Big City Greens Classic Pack

The New York Rangers and Washington Capitals played in the Big City Greens Classic and it was a hell of a ride. I like that Gary Bettman and the NHL are doing something different and I think this is an opportunity to grow the game. This was the first ever live animated NHL game and it seemed to be a success.

I really felt like I was playing a video game. So yeah this was geared towards a younger audience and stoners too. I think the players seemed to get a kick out of it. Dylan Strome had a great interview on his thoughts behind the experiment. My favorite aspect of the broadcast was the puck point of view.

The NHL regular season is 82 games long and any chance you can mix things up like an outdoor game or live animated game its more fun for the players. Seems less like work and brings you back to when you were a kid. There is even a grocery store right behind the Big City Greens rink. Tom Wilson had time to run and grab snacks while in the sin bin.

Drew Carter and Kevin Weekes did a great job with the broadcast making it fun and informative. This was also an opportunity for the creators of the show to get more exposure as well. You have to think the NHL will definitely do something like this again in the future. I enjoyed this broadcast even though they didn’t highlight the greatest throw of all time. Don’t make Igor mad.

RIP Aliakesi Protas’ stick.
