The St. Louis Blues had an underwhelming disappointing season. Vladimir Tarasenko, Ivan Barbashev, and Ryan O’Reilly are all on their way to the playoffs. At the start of the season, nobody predicted the Blues to be sellers ahead of the trade deadline. The Blues were so inconsistent they only gave themselves a 3.5% shot at getting Connor Bedard. But they do have three first round picks in the draft on top of six more picks in the later rounds. There is plenty to look forward to next season like Jakob Vrana and Kasperi Kapanen who were picked up off waivers.
I made four predictions for the season and came out one for four at 25%. The Blues winning the home opener was the only one that hit. The season series against the Wild wasn’t even close, although they somehow managed a shutout in the only win. This whole season COULD have been so much better if they would have just let Binnington and Flower fight. The next one was the most ambitious prediction of all saying Jordan Kyrou would get 100 points. In 79 games played he racked up 37 goals and 36 assists which is two points shy from last years career high 75. For the first time in his career, Jordan Kyrou led the team in goals and points. He might not hit 100 points next season but I bet you he sets a new career high. Finally, my last prediction was the Blues would make the playoffs and boy, was I wrong. The West might not be as stacked as the other conference this season but that Central division is scary good. Had the Blues got in via the wildcard there was no way they could beat the Stars or Golden Knights in a first round matchup. Even with all the pieces that were traded away on top of hypothetically bringing in someone like Timo Meier or Jakob Chychrun there was no way the Blues could have made a run.
Despite the disappointing season, Blues fans have plenty to look forward to next season. Like who will be the next captain? Brayden Schenn has done more than enough to earn the C but who knows Ryan O’Reilly might come back to St. Louis. Of course AFTER the Maple Leafs take a SECOND round exit against the Bruins. Here I go again with more predictions…
