After a booming Free Agent Frenzy I thought I could pretend to put my cell phone away and go up to my cottage in Halifax and relax this off season like every other NHL insider.
But no, I can’t do it. Why? Because I am the man of the people and I’m supposed to provide entertainment- It’s just the kind of guy I am. Also, I definitely don’t have any sort of “Camp”, “Cottage” or anything other sweet piece of real estate. The loft at my parents house is pretty comfortable and Wi-fi is a nice touch. The air conditioner lets in bugs every once in a while (a sure fire nature theme) but i have a 3000 volt bug zapper to set the tone to any critter getting in my way. So maybe at the end of the day Bobby Mac and I are a lot more similar then one once thought.
Anyways, this is what has transpired the last 24 hours or so.
Carey price re-signed with the Habs to an 8 year, 84 million dollar extension.
That’s a lot of money, and most people seem to respect it. The best goalie in the world got paid like the best goalie in the world. Personally, I think Carey Price has been the “MVP” pretty much every year he has played. If we’re talking about most valuable towards your team, outside of McDavid, the runaway answer is Price (Calm down Crosby fan boys, hes the best in the world but Pitt would still have Gino. Congrats on loosing on purpose and rigging the draft lottery, hope you’re all proud). Without Carey Price, the Montreal Canadiens are essentially Canadas Buffalo Sabres, while both having A1 goal horns. The only negative about this was Karl Alzner asking MTL management if Price was going to be longterm. If I’m management, I tell old Karlzy bud that Price is out and to stay the fuck away from my team. Take a lap.
Alex Radulov signs with Dallas on a 5 year 31.25 million dollar contract
Not exactly the most persuasive way to negotiate. Can you believe he didn’t resign? Radulov is off to the stars that now have Radulov, Benn, Seguin, Spezza, Hanzal, and Faksa. I mean, that’s pretty decent, no? The Stars now sport the most offensive top 6 in the game thats going to keep putting opposing goalies well into the red light district. Bring your sunscreen guys, you’re about to get burnt. I take that back, that sounded to pushy. All I’m saying- The Stars have the potential to be very fucking good.
Marleau goes off and signs a 3 year deal worth 18.75 mill (6.25 AAV) with Toronto
I don’t hate this. Yes, it is a butt ton of money towards a 38 year old winger but it’s going to work. Why is it going to work? Because Austin Matthews is legit. Marleau has always been a great goal scorer and when you put him with one of the best centers in the game, what do you think is going to happen? Oh, he’ll score goals. I think Marleau will have a solid, 2.5 years with Toronto before fading a bit. But in the end, he will compliment Matthews and will propel Toronto into a deeper playoff. Look for them to make some serious noise next year.
Jumbo Joe Fucks
Should’ve put a NSFW warning on that picture. Affliction T’s are everything Ed Hardy wanted to be and more. So once his buddy shipped off to Toronto, Jumbo signs an 8 million dollar deal with the sharks while riding a lawn mower and wearing Flloyd Mayweathers The Money Team T-shirt.
Plain and simple, Joe Thornton fucks. Remember that time Hertl got yelled at for show boating 4 goals and Thornton said, “I’d have my cock out if I scored four goals. I’d have my cock out, stroking it.”? Guy gives zero fucks. He gives zero fucks because all he does is hammer. I think Evgeni Kuznetsov is a stud and will be for a long time. The kid is the real deal and I have no problem saying that. I just have 2 problems with him.

The caps are in cap hell and had to deal Marcus Johanssen to the devils for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Why am I laughing? Because this guy got traded for a first round pick.
Talk about one minute being on the top of the world and the next minute just really wishing everything was over. There is OV drama, 8 year Oshie Contracts, a depleting defense and a goalie who is awesome in the regular season but straight ass in the playoffs (how many cups?). What will Washington do?
