NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties.
Marchand was issued a Warning following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 377 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Nov. 29. His second Citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident at 5:38 of the second period during NHL Game No. 983 against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 1. Marchand (embellishment) and Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta (tripping) received offsetting minor penalties on the play.
Surprise? Absolutely not. “The Rat” Brad Marchand will do whatever it takes to try to gain an edge. I guess I have to respect that? Guarantee I will receive a few “Cindy Crosby” tweets, or people talking shit about the Pens saying “Crosby dives all the time” blah, blah blah… but holy shit Brad Marchand deserves a 10 for this dive. He looks like a young Greg Louganis out there! (minus the smashing his skull on the diving board)
(I don’t know what that says but it’s the only tweet I could find with the video)
Impeccable form. Full tuck front flip. Execution looks good. Deducting points for his landing, too much impact. The little jump at the end really helped to propel him off the ice in a way I haven’t seen before. Marchand is a revolutionary in the diving game I will give him that.
This next clip is from earlier this year in a game against the Lightning, and you can see that Marchand has really taken a beating from teams this year. Marchand was cited for embellishment on this play too, but I’ll let you be the judge… I’m warning you now, this looks incredibly violent so please, for the love of god make sure there are no children present while you watch this. It really is gruesome. You’ve been warned.
DYING DIVING VIDEO)
Just joshin’, but who knew Rats could dive so well? I mean I’ve seen Ratatouille probably 35 times in my day, and I knew they could cook delectable French cuisine. I remember Pizza Rat, that NYC mutant sewer rat. I also have watched Tom and Jerry, so I knew a little mouse/rat could definitely outsmart the common housecat. Hell I’ve seen it first hand, I had a roommate purchase a cat because our apartment had mice, that cat never caught a damn THING.
