What is going on with the New York Islanders and will John Tavares return?

I’m going to start this off by saying I am a Rangers fan and do not know much about what is going on in Brooklyn. I’m here to just bring up a few situations and a final question I have surrounding the Islanders this season. So if you’re an Islanders fan, give me a break here and provide me some feedback. I’m not trolling, I’m just seriously confused.

The first piece of drama I saw from Islanders fans this year was when the fans bought 3 billboards saying “Snow Must Go.” I wrote about this earlier this year and thought it was a BALLIN’ ass move. Having said that, not the BEST look for an NHL franchise. I love the fact that their fans had the passion and the balls to do something like this but it puts management in an interesting position moving forward.

Fast forward a bit and the date is February 8th. The New York Rangers wave the white flag. I remember thinking that I was happy this was the way the Rangers were going but also scared to death at the amount of chirps I would receive from Islanders fans. I can’t blame them, if the roles were reversed I would’ve done the exact same thing. However, sometimes you don’t want to jump the shark too soon.

Oh boy, not good. Your cross town rivals are telling the league they’ll sell anybody and are playing some of their best talent with Cody fucking McLeod and the Islanders aren’t doing anything. How in the world do the Isles not do anything at the deadline? I suppose signing Josh Bailey to an extension is a good thing but puts you in a precarious situation if John Tavares chooses not to re-sign, but I’ll get on to that later.

News today broke that highly talented Josh Ho Sang is PISSED about the way he was treated earlier this year.

“I love those guys, I want to make that clear,” Ho-Sang said of his former Islanders teammates. “I know they’re working hard. But I got sent down for defense and what are they in goals against in the NHL? I only played (22) games up there this year. I don’t think it’s my fault. They really painted it like it was my fault at the beginning of the year and I didn’t like that.

“I do have things I need to work on down here, my game is far from perfect. It can constantly improve. But I do think a lot of the stuff was unwarranted, especially in terms of the rope that other people were given. I understand I have a history and that might be a factor. I don’t know. But it’s frustrating to me.”

Is he wrong? Sure, the Isles waited longer on Barzal and it panned out but why not bring this kid up to play knowing that you’re out of the playoffs? Why not show John Taveres that the future is bright and that he has offensive reinforcements on the way? Hmm, I don’t get that.

Anyways, the real reason I’m writing this blog is to ask all of you if John Tavares is going to re-sign with the Islanders. JT is probably the most underrated player in the entire league and a well respected leader. Having being drafted by the Isles and serving as team captain for a bit, one would think it’d be a no brainer that JT would re-sign. My issue with this is that if he was going to re-sign why hasn’t he yet? I’m assuming the Islanders are going to give him a blank check so what’s the difference of signing now than in the offseason? Is JT waiting to see what direction management and ownership are going in? Are all the issues raised above, in addition to not having a permanent home becoming glaring red flags for JT? I don’t know, but I’d love to hear what you guys have to think.
