John Tortorella Thinks The Game Has Gone Soft and I Agree

Torts, say it louder for the people in the back. Off the top of my head, I can’t really think of any heated rivalries over the last few years. The NHL instituted a rivalry night, which since has been canned, to try to rev up the engines but when the Bruins and the Coyotes are playing on a Wednesday night no one is going to believe that.

This is the type of hate Torts is talking about. I remember growing up that whenever the Red Wings played the Avalanche it was must watch television. These teams hated each other. There is no questioning that. How did Dino Ciccarelli feel about it?

Or how about when the Bruins and the Canadiens went at it every single time they played?

I miss these types of games. I miss tuning in to watch hockey knowing we were about to see a god damn war on the ice. Did I want to see someone get hurt? Fuck no, I’m not a psychopath. I did however love seeing grown ass men compete with an edge and a desire to be able to say we are fucking better than you are at the end of the night. The game for sure has more skill now more than ever with names like McDavid, MacKinnon and Matthews but its not like the game didn’t have skill back then. The NHL still had guys like Jagr, Bure, Kariya, Kovalev, etc. I don’t know what it is. Is it the way the world itself is going? Could be. As a Rangers fan this is the last time I knew we were in one.

One of my favorite moments of all time. The boys out there battling to see who is the alpha. Will the game ever return to the old days? I don’t know, but for my sake and Torts, I sure as hell hope so.
