Blues Owner Thanking Fans For a Stanley Cup Before They Win The Cup is as Amateur Hour as it Gets

ST. LOUIS — In a letter published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Sunday, St. Louis Blues owner Tom Stillman thanked his fans after “the elation of breaking through and bringing St. Louis its first-ever Stanley Cup.”

One problem: The Blues haven’t actually won the Stanley Cup yet. The letter, as well as a few congratulatory advertisements, appeared in the digital edition of the newspaper hours before the team was scheduled to play Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins, leading the series 3-2.

What an idiot. There is no way in hell the Blues win now, not a shot. I’ve seen stuff like this happen so many times and it never works out how someone thinks it will. How do you let this happen? Is this on the owner, or is this on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch? I feel like the job here isn’t that tough.

“Okay, so if the Blues win, you publish this letter.”

“Oh, okay.”

“That’s if they win, do you understand?”

“Yeah, I publish the letter.”

“No, no. If they win, you publish the letter.”

“That’s what I said, I publish the letter.”

Good grief.
