Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has been fined $135,000 and faces a three-month suspended license for speeding in Finland, according to a report from Finnish news outlet Ilta-Sanomat.
Ristolainen was driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone in his Mercedes-Benz G 500 off-road vehicle in Turku on May 3, the report said. The incident happened on a Friday afternoon when there was a lot of traffic in the area, according to the report.
Finland uses an income-based system for penalties and the newspaper said the fine is believed to be the most ever for a speeding ticket in Finland. Ristolainen could choose to appeal.
During a court appearance, Ristolainen admitted that he was speeding but said the speedometer did not properly show how fast he was going, according to the report. He also outlined the safety features of his car in order to mitigate the fine.
A decision has not been made on whether Ristolainen will have his license suspended.
Yeah, you read that right. Apparently in Finland there’s this rule where your speeding ticket fines are based on how much money you take in and boy oh boy does ol’ Rasmus wish he set that sucker on cruise control.
I am literally sick thinking about this. Think about all of the shit you can buy with $135,000. After something like this, you just got to hire a driver. To be honest, I think thats the biggest fuck up that professional athletes make is not having their own Turtle. Use your brain for me one time. You can get as fucked up as you want, sit back and relax, and not have to worry about getting a $135,000 fine. Fuck, with that money, you could probably hire Jeff Gordon to drive you around for a year.
