First off….I want to say that it feels really good to be getting back into hockey. I absolutely despise the summer as a hockey fan. I love the weather and it’s a necessary break, but I live for the fall and the start of October. As a Ranger fan, I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I know we are miles away from a Stanley Cup, but these upcoming years will be fun to watch as we are finally growing a Stanley Cup team instead of buying are way to a cup. Tomorrow starts the real journey in Traverse City, Michigan.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the Traverse City Tournament is probably the most exciting pre-season event that the NHL puts on. It is an 8 team prospect tournament with the Rangers, Wild, Blue Jackets, Stars, Blackhawks, Blues, Leafs, and of course the Red Wings. Unfortunately it won’t be televised so the only way to truly get updates are twitter and the website listed at the bottom.
The Rangers are sending all their young stars too. The team will be lead by Kakko, Kravtsov, Fox, and Shesterkin. New York has not won the tournament since 2007, but are certainly favorites heading into the weekend. That isn’t a surprise since the New York Rangers are considered to have the #1 overall prospect pool according to the Athletic and NHL Network. Colorado and New Jersey are respectively 2nd and 3rd. This weekend should be very interesting for the Rangers because this tournament will give an idea of how well these “elite prospects” do against the leagues best prospect pool.
