This blog is written for people who can separate politics from sports. This blog is for people who can enjoy a 24 year old defenseman blossom before their eyes without having to feel like a social media keyboard warrior. If you can’t stand nice things being said about Tony DeAngelo please exit now before you become triggered and throw a temper tantrum for your 10s of 10s of 10s of social media followers to see. Thank you and god bless.
Tony DeAngelo set the tone for everyone hating on himself, the Rangers and his dear buddy Ryan Strome this past week. In 3 games, Tony had 7 points with 5 of them coming against the Devils.
This season, Tony has 11 goals – 3 of them on the PPer, 25 assists – 9 of them on the PPer, for 36 points in just 44 games. This puts him 6th in the entire NHL for defenseman and he’s only 24 years old. As Rangers fans, I think its about to we start seeing things glass half full. In the Stepan trade, the Rangers got DeAngelo and Lias Andersson- most consider this a bust as Lias has taken his ball and gone home, however the Rangers might have acquired one of the top notch offensive defenseman in the league. Over the last couple years I’ve taken an eye to Tony not because of this but because of his size and his personality to say fuck off to whoever he wants on the ice. Tony is fearless, will fight anyone and isn’t afraid to not only stir the pot but also stick up for teammates.
The Rangers once had a somewhat tough decision ahead of them before the season started so they bridged Tony with a one year deal. Now? You have to do what you have to do to get this kid signed. Guys, I already told you about his stats but also take into account he’s been playing with Marc Staal allll year. Can you imagine if he played with a human that could supply sufficient defense? The sky is the limit for 77 and IMO should be locked up long term for the bloys in blue. Move Kreider, buy out Staal, clear cap space because you can’t let this guy go. One, because he’s worthy of it and earned this opportunity. Two, because I can’t wait to see 1/2 of the Rangers Twitter population go on a hunger strike because of it. A+ content.
