Update: Ovechkin Does It Again

Alex Ovechkin has now scored a hat trick in back to back games. His first hat trick came Thursday night against the Devils. Those three goals put him over the 30 goal mark and helped him reach a historic mark, scoring 30+ goals in 15 consecutive seasons.

Earlier today the Capitals overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat the Long Island Islanders. Ovechkin registered another hat trick in this game. Once again this hat trick came with an historical tag. He surpassed Mario Lemieux and tied Steve Yzerman on the all time goal scoring list. His 692 career goals puts him tied with Yzerman for 9th overall and just 2 behind Mark Messier.

What a week for number 8. That’s 8 goals in his last 3 games and he buzzing. Unfortunately this ride will come to a halt because of the All-Star game. Ovechkin turned down his invitation to the game, which comes with a game suspension. His return won’t be until January 31st when the Caps head to Ottawa.
