A couple weeks ago we talked about the beer leaguer who went Jimmy SuperFly Snuka into the bench to get his stick back. Admirable move. What myself and many of our followers noticed was the fact that the other team had about a dozen players wearing 69 and that had me thinking- Has an NHL player ever worn 69? And then I did some research, aka I did a quick google search, which lead me to the ol’ hockey reference and this is what we got.

“Mad” Mel Angelstad
If you watched that video you can tell that Mel is a guy you want in your lockeroom. He got to make his NHL debut at the young age of 31. He got a couple games in which is more than myself and probably more games than you have played in the NHL. I don’t know much about him but judging by the amount of PIMS he had in the IHL (421PIMS) are buddy Southpaw (@4thlinevoice) would probably have more to say than myself.
Andrew Desjardins

From what I remember, Desjardins played a hard game, toying the line and pissing a lot of people off. He was suspended a few time sand even wound up playing for my New York Rangers. He also won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015 and carved out a pretty decent NHL career.
Will we ever see another 69? Only time will tell. To be honest I really hope it’s just reserved for guys who spend enough time for a cup of coffee in the show. It’s endearing, it’s beautiful, and it’s something the common man can root for.
