The Capitals made history today as the first NHL team to rock an advertisement on their sweater with It’s Caesars Sportsbook. In my opinion it’s a huge missed opportunity for any injury law offices looking to make a pretty penny every time Tom Wilson hurts someone but I digress. I’ve always been an anti-sponsor guy in terms of the jerseys because of the history of the game but they really don’t look that bad.
If teams stick with one sponsor and keep it small / tight I have no issue with this whatsoever. My only concern is the greedy owners choosing 10-15 different sponsors lighting up the jerseys like they’re about to run in the Daytona 500.
Having said all this, I started brainstorming what companies I’d want to sponsor / be a part of my jersey and this is what I came up with.
Applebees
Bring back chain restaurants. Where did the Dillon Panthers go every Friday night after the game? They went to the neighborhood, they went to Applebees. Applebees represents the types of players that go to the gritty areas of the ice, block shots with their faces, and are always the players that everyone hates playing against. Think of all the appetizer specials you could run with a successful penalty kill. No brainer.
Ferrari
Have you ever seen someone stand next to a Ferrari and not look like the fucking man? Ferraris screams success and success screams Ferrari. Is this kind of a boujie sponsor? Yes. But if you’re successful, do you really give a fuck?
Miller Lite
Hockey and beer drinking are synonymous with each other. I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a hockey game and didn’t drink a beer. Now why did I pick Miller Lite? A few years ago I saw Matthew McConaughey drink some Millers and is there anyone cooler than that guy? From that moment I decided that I will be a Miller guy for the rest of my life. If you get Miller, you get McConaughey, and if you get McConaughey, you can get the people going with one of these.
