Buckle up folks the 2021 NHL season is finally here! Instead of the usual 82 regular game schedule there will be 56 regular season games this year. New divisions breaking up the typical East vs West conferences will be interesting but I’m just happy the NHL is back!
It’s been a crazy offseason and Blues hockey is back for opening night. The night cap in Colorado starts at 9:45 CST. With the departures of Alex Pietrangelo, Alex Steen, Jake Allen and Jay Bouwmeester the Blues had to fill some major holes. Holes were filled by bringing in Torey Krug back in October on a seven year deal worth $45.5 million and now signing Mike Hoffman to a one year $4 million contract. After sending Jake Allen to the Canadians its finally time for Ville Husso to shine in the NHL while relieving some of Jordan Binnington’s goaltending duties. Vladimir Tarasenko is put on Long Term IR after multiple successful shoulder surgeries which makes room to add Jordan Kyrou and Mackenzie MacEachern to the main roster. With these new additions on top of the veteran lead group, the Blues feel like they have what it takes to bring the cup back to St. Louis.
What are the odds Mike Hoffman is unsigned this late in the offseason? Well, like I said it’s been a crazy offseason and there’s no guarantees thanks to covid. This is a huge addition and really benefits both sides as Hoffman seems to be pumped to wear the blue note.
You cannot replace a guy like Alex Pietrangelo but adding someone like Torey Krug is pretty damn close. After signing Krug the Blues went back and forth with the former captan but they couldn’t come to an agreement and even if they did that means Mike Hoffman would have landed somewhere else. Wishing the best for Alex Pietrangelo and his career in Vegas with the Golden Knights but also looking forward to the Blues new PP unit. Torey Krug has a hell of a record playing quarterback for the Boston Bruins.
