Talk about a free agent frenzy! The offseason has brought us hockey fans many many surprises, maybe even more than some fans had hoped for but that’s hockey. Seattle is officially in the league but at what cost?
The most shocking trade of the decade was when Vegas sent Vezina trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury to Chicago for Mikael Hakkarainen. This is a complete slap in the face to a future hall of fame goaltender who was told by GM Bill Foley “He (Flower) is the face of the franchise. You are going to retire here…”
The return for a top three goaltender was a prospect who has yet to make a name for himself in the AHL. This trade was made to clear cap space which happens all the time. What bothers me is that Fleury’s agent claims he found out about the trade via twitter.
Just two days later, Vegas sends Ryan Reaves to the New York Rangers for a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Golden Knights fans might be sad about this but the rest of the league is looking at this as a major W.
Bottom Line: It’s pretty clear Bill Foley is going to do whatever it takes to win, even if that means lying to the face of the franchise. At the end of the day you have to remember this is a business. Was this just another move in order to bring in Capt Jack? Eichel is anxiously awaiting for his ticket off the Buffalo clown car we call the Sabres.
